Dorothy to cover Hey Refrain
Jun 25, 2009 News
We were asked by the Local Rock Band Dorothy on our MySpace page if they could cover our song Hey Refrain. Hell Yeah! As far as we know, no one has ever covered an Achalachia song.
It’s still not confirmed when the song will be covered, but most likely will be at Dorothy’s Fubar Show on August 5th.
With this news, we thought there wouldn’t be a better time to post what we have about Hey Refrain.

July 1 Set List
Jun 19, 2009 News
If you didn’t already know we are playing a show at Fubar on July 1st. It’s a Jupiter Studios battle of the bands show where the bands are competing for studio time at Jupiter Studios. We don’t have a lot of money, most of it is spent on gas, beer and t-shirts, so we are working hard to win that free studio time. So we believe we’ve made one of our best 25 minute set lists to date.
Vomit – Listen to the last show
Self Esteem – Listen to the last show
Norman – no recordings here, try Achalachia on MySpace
Broken – Listen to the last show
Personal Canary – Listen to the last show
Petunia Pussylittle – Listen to the last show

A-Town Mob Show
Jun 11, 2009 News
Let me start by saying, I the show went really well. All the bands were great (do you call a rap group a band?) and from what I saw the crowd was having a really good time.
As you may or may not have heard, we played a show on June 5, as one of the opening bands for the A-Town Mob CD Release party. We really didn’t know what to expect going in to it, because we don’t have a lot of experience playing with rap groups. So we decided to play a bunch of new songs. See the compete set list here.
There was a really good turnout at the show, and the crowd’s reaction to us what a lot better than I expected (since I didn’t know what to expect). There were a few guys that seemed to really enjoy what we were doing, Lurch and Dustin (I may have these names wrong, I was drunk and am bad with names anyway). But anyway, Lurch and his friend came and talked with us for a long time after the show. And we hope to see them at Fubar on July 1st.
We recorded the show, with our amazing recording studio (ask about it sometime), and I think it sounds really good. Somehow the beginning of the first song, Broken, got cut off and we ran out of tape during the solo of Personal Canary, but what can you expect, I cant be everywhere at once. I do want to thank Steve for hitting the record button and guarding the studio with his life, and also for helping us lug our gear. But if your worried about not hearing all of Personal Canary, we did record the sound check of that song, so we’ll post that as well. We just need to transfer the tape to the computer and we’ll put them up, check back often – we promise we’ll put them up soon.
The songs have been transfered and you can here then here!
We got some great pictures as well. As soon as we get copies of these we’ll post them for you as well. Take a look at the pictures here! We gave access to our photographer, Dana, to the stage, and she was everywhere. If you’d like to hire her, too bad, she’s ours. But you can always send us an email and we’ll forward it off to her, maybe.
We had a few technical difficulties, broken strings and bass guitars, so we ran out of time before we could really thank A-Town Mob for having us out. So thank you guys, it was a lot of fun. And I hope you’ll have us back at your next CD release party.
Now that the party’s over, its back to work, making new songs, creating a set list for the Fubar Battle of the Bands and preparing for our recording time at Jupiter Studios.

June 5 2009 Set List
Jun 4, 2009 News
We have finally got the set list hammered down for the A-Town Mob CD Release Party show on Friday, June 5th at 7pm. We’ve been working all week at finishing up a few new songs and trying them in different orders. Our main problem is that we are only playing a 25-minute set and with such a short amount of time it’s hard to make a dynamic set. But after much debate it looks like the set list will be:
Broken – A new song we have been working on for a long time. We started working on it about 5 months ago when John brought a riff to practice but just couldn’t find the the other parts. It would pop up every now and then showing its ugly face at us and laughing, but we tamed the ugly beast by giving it a refrain and bridge/solo.
Self Esteem – This one almost went away a few different times, but John would never let it go. There were some worries that the song resembled “In The Way” too much, so the song started changing, getting softer and more complicated, until one day it snapped. Self Esteem didn’t want to be soft and/or complicated, it wanted to rock. It completely reverted back to the way it started with a few minor additions and tweaks added by Nick.
Petunia Pussylittle – A staple for every Achalachia show, Petunia Pussylittle is quickly becoming a fan favorite.
Better Than This – Played for its first time live at the Pop’s May 6th show, it seems to be the perfect middle of the set breather that the set list needs.
Vomit – Also played for its first time live at the Pop’s May 6th show, Vomit actually has nothing to do with its name. During the creation of the song we needed some way of referring to it, and Adam thought up Early Morning Vomit, it stuck. Now just shortened to Vomit, its quickly becoming an Achalachia favorite.
Personal Canary – By far one of the more exciting songs for Achalachia to play, Personal Canary is one of the oldest songs in the Achalachia playbook, but has gone through some of the most dramatic changes over time.
For future shows, if there is a song you would like to hear us play, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.
