New Music Sunday
Jul 11, 2010 News
Well, it’s about time we finally share our new songs with the world. We recorded Broken and Norman at Jupiter Studios a few months back, and after great debate on what to do with them, we’ve finally concluded that you can hear the music. We are a band after all, and the point of the band is to allow the rest of the world to hear the music the band makes. So here they are:

Two Tracks at Jupiter Studios
Apr 12, 2010 News
This past weekend we recorded Broken and Norman at Jupiter Studios with engineer Doug Storm in Studio A and it was by far the best studio experience we’ve ever had. It has been a long time since we’d been in the studio, and it was also our first time with Nick and we were slightly worried that it wouldn’t run very smoothly, but needless to say, since we are writing a post about it, the session went great.
On day one we recorded the drums and guitars. It took a little longer than planned with extra guitar parts and fine-tuning the drums, but when the day was done we had a good foundation to work with to fill in the rest of the holes.
As a primarily live band we normally don’t play to a click-track but Adam was able to easily find the timing and play his intricate beats to the annoying tick sound. The truly impressive part was how he easily incorporated some of his odd time signature fills into the click.
Playing live as a three-piece rock band, some of the songs true potential is never given a chance to truly shine. Not to say that the songs are incomplete live, the power and aggression is there, but when it comes to studio magic we thought it would be best to show everything. A good example of this is in the guitar tracks. There are multiple tracks for each song, but for the most part you would never know. On the other hand, in Norman we had the chance to show off our second guitar. Yes, this is a teaser, you are just going to have to wait until the tracks have been mixed, mastered and released, hopefully by early May.
With day one complete, day two we were able to finish up the guitars and also completed the bass and vocals. The base went surprisingly quick and vocals went better than expected.
After listening to the playback of the first day, Nick decided that some new bass lines needed to be created. Not taking much time at all, Nick was able to knock out some great new bass lines. If you just cant wait for the release of the tracks, you’ll get to hear them at our next show.(link)
The vocals took a bit of time, but eventually turned out well. With the lyrics finally recorded, it looks like I’m going to have to memorize them and now screw them up at live performances.
Doug Storm at Jupiter Studios worked really well with us. He put up with his fair share of fart jokes and all around immature humor and I’m sure he’s happy to have his life back. He is planning on mixing the tracks in the next week or so, then taking a little time away from the songs before mastering them. We highly recommend him to any rock band that is looking to record. Doug is professional but not stiff, he made it comfortable to work with him and he really does know what he is doing. And we deffenetly do plan on recording with him again in the future.

Busy Few Weeks
Apr 1, 2010 News
We’ve got a busy few weeks ahead of us. With the completion of a great show at Brothers Bar & Grill in Wildwood, a two hour set might I add, and recording at Jupiter Studios next weekend, then finally the Naughty P.J. Party the following week, it’s getting hard to keep things straight.
Brothers Bar & Grill
First off, Brothers Bar & Grill in Wildwood is, to say the least, a really cool bar. We are usually not fans of playing Bar & Grills, but this one turned out to be a really good show. We played about two hours and then Common Era closed the show (they invited us).
If you never been to Brothers Bar & Grill, during a show or not, you really should make the trip. They have American bar food, great parking, video game, shuffle board, and in the evenings live music or open mic night. It’s a really comfortable bar and to top it off, it’s clean. Like I said, if you’ve never been, give them a try, follow the link above.
Jupiter Studios
Next week we are recording Broken and Norman at Jupiter Studios. After a great debate and a lot of compromise we decided that these two songs would be best. We know them well, enjoy them and think they show the true diversity of our music. Unfortunetly, we will not just be giving these tracks away, you’ll have to buy them, most likely .99 cents. But we will be putting up some samples, my guess is 30 seconds or so, so you can hear something before you buy it. We are also thinking of making some CDs with the two tracks and a few live ones and selling them at shows. So if anyone is interested or has any good ideas, let us know.
Naughty P.J. Party
A-Town Mob has once again invited us to play a show with them, this time in Pevely, MO at TBC Venue. We’ve never been there before, but are expecting a good time. The show has been named the Naughty P.J. Party and people are asked to wear the Pajamas, we are planning on it. Too bad I sleep naked, so watch out girls.

This is an 18+ show for only $5! The whole shindig starts at 7pm, so don’t be late. Other bands that will be playing with us are The Fat Blunt Crew, Deimos, Sexion 8, Local Kings, John Boi and The Catalyst. If you need more info shoot us an email.
Well that covers the highlights of the world of Achalachia, we still have a lot of other things going on as well, song creation, new band name, trying out new guitar players and finding a label/manager. So if you think you can help us out in any way, let us know.

Studio Time Booked
Mar 9, 2010 News
Achalachia has finally booked studio time at Jupiter Studios to record a few songs. We still have not completely decided what songs we are going to play, but have narrowed it down to three: Petunia Pussylittle, Norman and Broken. Most likely we will only be able to do 2 of them, but if are on our game, we might be able to pull all three off.
In the upcoming weeks we’ll be posting home recording tracks of each of the songs so you can listen and give input on which songs we should do first. Meaning, whatever song is last, if we don’t have the time, it gets cut.
We chose Jupiter Studios nearly a year ago during our Great Studio Hunt. They had the right price as well as offered free studio time for playing a show at the Fubar. So, finally after digging up the money and really working the songs we are going to the studio in April.

Jupiter Studios Battle Of The Bands Review
Jul 8, 2009 News
Let me start this by saying, “Thank You” to all who came out to support us at Fubar for the Jupiter Studios Battle of the Bands. Alas, we didn’t win, but IMHO we rocked. I am not one to give my band or myself too much credit, I always think we can do better, but I believe that this show was amazing!
I’m not going to give you a play by play of the evening, for that you can read A Night At Fubar on JohnNemec.com, but I will give you the short of the show.
Of the six bands scheduled to play the show, only 3 arrived: Achalachia, The Phranklyn Project, and Almost Modest. We had a half hour set scheduled, July 1 Set List, but with the missing bands we had to fill in 45 minutes. Also, the show was scheduled to begin at 8 but was pushed back to 8:30.
I’ll never understand why a band would drop out of a show, ever. But of all the shows to drop out of, why this one? Just for playing this show every band receives 10 free hours of studio time from Jupiter Studios. If that wasn’t enough, what about the fact that the whole reason people are in bands is to play their music, which they’ve worked hard to create, on stage in front of people other than your mother.
That being said, the set we ended up playing was:
- Vomit
- Self Esteem
- Hey Refrain
- Norman
- Broken
- Sappy
- Personal Canary
We guessed our time wrong and didn’t get to play Petunia Pussylittle, which was the first time we didn’t play the song at a show since it was made. But it turned out well, and it was refreshing not to play it.
The other bands were good, but I truly believe that we were better. “Then why didn’t you win?” you ask, well, bottom line is, we didn’t sell as many tickets. Both of the other bands brought far more people than us, and the judging was based on how loud the crowd gets after the set. After our set the crowd was VERY loud, and I thought we might have a chance of winning, but towards the end of the show about 30 fourteen year old kids walked through the door. The boys balls hadn’t dropped and the girls hadn’t found cigarettes yet so the decibel range had to be off the chart. At least that’s what I tell myself to make me feel better.
Win or lose, we still have our 10 free hours of studio time, so that gives us a grand total of 20 hours at Jupiter Studios to record some songs. We are still thinking of recording Petunia Pussylittle and Personal Canary. If you have any other suggestions, please let us know.
Now we are preparing for the 105.7 The Point and Pop’s Battle for Pointfest show. We will need everyone support if we are going to win this one. The winner gets to play the side stage at Pointfest. So bring your friends, neighbors, and your mom. Also, buy your tickets from us, it makes us look better, and you can get your tickets by sending us an email on our contact page.
