Studio Time Booked

Achalachia has finally booked studio time at Jupiter Studios to record a few songs. We still have not completely decided what songs we are going to play, but have narrowed it down to three: Petunia Pussylittle, Norman and Broken. Most likely we will only be able to do 2 of them, but if are on our game, we might be able to pull all three off.

In the upcoming weeks we’ll be posting home recording tracks of each of the songs so you can listen and give input on which songs we should do first. Meaning, whatever song is last, if we don’t have the time, it gets cut.

We chose Jupiter Studios nearly a year ago during our Great Studio Hunt. They had the right price as well as offered free studio time for playing a show at the Fubar. So, finally after digging up the money and really working the songs we are going to the studio in April.

July 1 Set List

If you didn’t already know we are playing a show at Fubar on July 1st. It’s a Jupiter Studios battle of the bands show where the bands are competing for studio time at Jupiter Studios. We don’t have a lot of money, most of it is spent on gas, beer and t-shirts, so we are working hard to win that free studio time. So we believe we’ve made one of our best 25 minute set lists to date.

Studio Hunt Continues

Stop number 2 on the Great Studio Hunt will be Jupiter Studios. We’ve been looking at Jupiter Studios for a while now, and nearly recorded there a few years back at their Washington location.

I spoke with Jodie over the phone and scheduled a tour with Engineer Doug Storm (I think) for Tuesday, May 26th. She asked what our style of music is and what we are planning on doing. I told her everything she needed to know. I also informed her that we are looking to book about 10 hours to record one song, most likely Petunia Pussylittle, but part of me would also like to record Personal Canary or Vomit (I didn’t tell her that part). She quoted us a price, which looks very close to the website prices (so I don’t feel bad saying it), of $500 in Studio A for 10 hours.

So the next step will be to go take a look, and a listen if they have time, and make sure we feel comfortable there. And as always, I’ll keep you posted on how it goes, and let us know if you have any suggestions of what to record.

Currently located at 3323 Locust, this facility was obtained in 2006 with the help of a lucrative real estate deal involving the MO Pac building. Through the profits from that deal, Jupiter Studios has grown into a million dollar dream facility now housing 2 first class recording rooms, graphic design, video, web, and CD duplication services.

The Great Studio Hunt

Achalachia is on the “Great Studio Hunt” again. We’ll be touring the St. Louis area looking for the first recording studio that can give us the best quality for the lowest price.

Tonight we will be visiting Shock City Studios. They were referred to us by @Raquita on Twitter. We don’t know much about them, including pricing, but the website looks nice.

I think for the first round we are just going to record 1 song, most likely Petunia Pussylittle, until we know we like the studio, then we’ll go back and do a bunch more. But the trick is finding the money, it’s in short supply these days. So if anyone wants to help the cause and make a donation, you’ll get a free Achalachia song for every dollar you give, plus a thank you in the liner notes when the CD is completed.

We’ll keep you posted on the progress of the hunt. And if you know of a good studio you would like to recommend, or know of some place we should avoid – please let us know!
