Battle For Pointfest 2010 Review

We played the first round of the Battle for Pointfest 2010 on January 24th and now we wait. There are two options, win and play again or lose and go home. We knew it going in, but hard part will be waiting to see what happens.

Achalachia Pop's Battle For Pointfest 2010We rocked Pop’s at the Battle for Pointfest 2010! We opened our set with a new song tentatively called FUK quickly followed up by Norman. We followed that rock intro with Broken, one of my personal favorites but quickly picked it back up with Personal Canary. Unsure of when we were playing on the radio we threw in Hey Refrain to fill some time. Then finally we played Petunia Whoopsylittle live on 105.7 The Point’s Local Show. Unsure of the word Pussylittle would be frowned upon I we changed the words to Whoopsylittle. Very soon we will have the whole set posted for your listening pleasure.

Every band played as hard as they could. Rock Action Robots opened the show, followed by The Redeemed. We picked the third timeslot and were followed by Dust N Bones and Ocean By July.

Now that the show is over we get the privilege of waiting for the results. Rumor has it that we can find out who won at the Pop’s Website or Archfront Media’s site. But win or lose, when we find out who the big winner is we’ll post it on achalachia.com to let everyone know.

So what’s next? Assuming we win, we will play another round at Pop’s and the winner of that show will play Pointfest 2010.  So when we find out if we won or not we’ll let you know.

I would personally like to thank everyone that came out to support us Sunday night. Win or lose it was great to see 77 of our biggest fans flooding the bar. And if we win, I’m calling on all of you again to help support us in the next rounds. Pictures and music from the show will be posted soon, and if you have any pictures that you would like to submit, send us a message and we’ll let you know how to get them to us.

Battle For Pointfest 2010

For the month of January Achalachia is gearing up for the Battle For Pointfest 2010 at Pop’s. The show date is January 24th at 6pm for only $6, buy your tickets from a band member and help them out.

What is Pointfest?

Pointfest is a large outdoor rock music festival held twice a year by 105.7 The Point at Riverport Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. Normally, Pointfest has a main stage where the big rich rock bands play and a few more side stages where everyone else plays. One of the side stages is normally reserved for local bands, like Achalachia. The show starts on the side stages around 10am until the main stage acts start playing, around 6pm.

At Pointfest 14, May 14, 2002, a local band, Big Blue Monkey won the contest for the opening slot for the show, and managed to get one of their videos onto the tour bus of Goldfinger. The video immediately grabbed the attention of vocalist John Feldmann, which paid off in a spot touring with Goldfinger, a major record deal, and a name change to Story of the Year.

What is the Battle For Pointfest?

The Battle For Pointfest is a battle of the band held at Pop’s. The winner of each show will play the local stage of the next Pointfest. There is also a final battle, where all the winners play a final show to see who will play the main stage at Pointfest.

Why is this important?

This is important to Achalachia for many different reasons. First, every show is important. Second, we would REALLY like to play Pointfest. Third, the Battle for Pointfest, let alone Pointfest itself, would be GREAT exposure for Achalachia, and all the help we can get from our fans is needed.

How can you help?

First, buy a ticket from a member of Achalachia. In fact, buy two, bring your friends, your mom, your neighbor and the girl you trapped in the basement. Bring everyone you know. Spread the word!

After you’ve bought your tickets and you want to help more, hand out fliers. Just ask us and we’ll drive them to you. You pick the corner you want to stand on and pass them out. If you don’t want to do it alone, ask your friends to help you. Don’t have any friends? Come with us, we’ll be handing out fliers all month, just shoot us an email and tag along. What would be more fun than hanging out with the band. Remember, the more people at the show, the more fun the show will be.

So now you know all about Pointfest, and the Battle to get there, and why it’s so important to Achalachia, and your willing to help. What are you waiting for, get your tickets, spread the word, and we’ll see you at the show.

June 5 2009 Set List

We have finally got the set list hammered down for the A-Town Mob CD Release Party show on Friday, June 5th at 7pm. We’ve been working all week at finishing up a few new songs and trying them in different orders. Our main problem is that we are only playing a 25-minute set and with such a short amount of time it’s hard to make a dynamic set. But after much debate it looks like the set list will be:

Broken – A new song we have been working on for a long time. We started working on it about 5 months ago when John brought a riff to practice but just couldn’t find the the other parts. It would pop up every now and then showing its ugly face at us and laughing, but we tamed the ugly beast by giving it a refrain and bridge/solo.

Self Esteem – This one almost went away a few different times, but John would never let it go. There were some worries that the song resembled “In The Way” too much, so the song started changing, getting softer and more complicated, until one day it snapped. Self Esteem didn’t want to be soft and/or complicated, it wanted to rock. It completely reverted back to the way it started with a few minor additions and tweaks added by Nick.

Petunia Pussylittle – A staple for every Achalachia show, Petunia Pussylittle is quickly becoming a fan favorite.

Better Than This – Played for its first time live at the Pop’s May 6th show, it seems to be the perfect middle of the set breather that the set list needs.

Vomit – Also played for its first time live at the Pop’s May 6th show, Vomit actually has nothing to do with its name. During the creation of the song we needed some way of referring to it, and Adam thought up Early Morning Vomit, it stuck. Now just shortened to Vomit, its quickly becoming an Achalachia favorite.

Personal Canary – By far one of the more exciting songs for Achalachia to play, Personal Canary is one of the oldest songs in the Achalachia playbook, but has gone through some of the most dramatic changes over time.

For future shows, if there is a song you would like to hear us play, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.
